Collieston History

History of Collieston

An excellent multi-media site. Try to spot the cottage in its former lives: as the stables for the big house, and as a canning factory for Black Pudding !

Forvie National Nature Reserve

The official Nature Scot (used to be SNH) nature reserve web site

Met Office Logo

Check the Tides and the Weather

A useful Met office site for Collieston, but you can select any other location as well.

Northern Lights

The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen

Collieston is a great place to view the northern lights, if the sky is clear and conditions are right. This link takes you to Lancaster University where they monitor the sky for auroral activity. If the bars in the bar chart are amber or red, it means that you might see aurora if the sky is clear. But its worth looking out in any case!

storm surge

Storm Surge Coming ?

Storm surges are when westerly winds pile up water on the west coast of Scotland, and the "lump" of water then travels around the north coast of Scotland and passes by Collieston some time later. If they coincide with a high tide they can lead to flooding. This link takes you to a prediction of todays surge.
