CASTLES

Slains
Right on the cliff edge just to the north of Cruden Bay. The octagonal room at the castle centre inspired Bram Stoker when he wrote Dracula. Please be very careful with children and dogs near the cliffs – they can be dangerous.

Dunnottar
In a stunning setting south of Stonehaven. In private hands, so a fee to get in.

Delgatie Castle
A personal favourite. Small quirky private castle and unspoilt by renovation. Nice cafe. Nice walks in woods. Check if it is open. Near Fraserburgh.

Fyvie Castle
Very close - through Oldmeldrum on the way to Turriff. National Trust, but a great castle come country home.
